Meet Kari Thames
When tax obligations become overwhelming, many people are unsure where to turn. Letters from the IRS go unopened. Deadlines pass. Penalties accumulate. What begins as a tax issue can quickly affect a person's finances, business, and peace of mind.
Helping clients address those challenges has been the focus of Kari Thames's career for more than two decades. Since entering the field in 2005, Kari has worked with individuals and business owners facing a wide range of federal and state tax problems, helping taxpayers navigate disputes and find practical paths toward resolution.
As an Enrolled Agent, Kari focuses exclusively on tax resolution and taxpayer representation before taxing authorities. She is not an attorney, but works as part of Summit Law's multidisciplinary team, collaborating with the firm's attorneys whenever legal issues intersect with a client's tax matter. She brings a unique combination of tax knowledge, advocacy experience, and practical problem-solving to clients facing difficult tax situations.
Kari assists clients with IRS and Michigan tax matters involving installment agreements, offers in compromise, payroll tax issues, delinquent tax returns, tax liens and levies, penalty relief requests, and other tax controversies. She regularly communicates with taxing authorities on behalf of clients and helps evaluate options for resolving outstanding tax obligations.
She earned both her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and her Master of Business Administration from Davenport University. Kari is also a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals and has served as a tax resource for Legal Aid of West Michigan.Â
